Straddie Island

We hadn’t yet done an island experience so made the very easy journey from Brisbane, East to the ferry at Cleveland which took you to North Stradbrook Island, one of the largest sand islands in the world. A 50 min ferry ride and we were at a the drop off point of Dunwich where we then drove up to a beach called Amity Point. We stayed there for 3 nights as it as it was good to not have to move around for a bit, it was a lovely spot with an area of beach netted off – not for jellyfish this time but from the sharks which could be seen at dusk swimming up and down.

A large Goanna roaming our campsite

Picnic at Cylinder Beach, Point Lookout

A rare sight, Bobby working!

The jetty at Amity Point

Our own private beach, most of the time.

Our Safety officer Sarah did a quick risk assessment of the shark net on arrival to ensure there were no holes!

Whilst on the island we did a walk along Point Lookout, named as it is where people flock to to see whales migrating at other times of the year. This time of year you see dolphins, and the kids even got to feed a wild dolphin off the jetty. Sorry no photos!

Point Lookout but no whales this time of year
